How to crack a password protected RAR file (I)

This tip is useful to break the password of RAR files that you may have downloaded from torrents and through forum links from rapidshare. It could also be a case when forgot the password of a RAR file that you proctected.

The first tool the I propose using is called RAR Pass Finder. It is a portable light tool, with extremely easy to use interface.

RAR Password Finder

Rar Pass Finder isn’t different from other password finders, it uses dictionary files, to test against the unknown password. The software isn’t 100% accurate, meaning that you won’t always find the passwords. Rar Pass Finder comes only in German, but since it has only 3 buttons, it’s pretty self explanatory. Drag and drop your .rar file(s) in the program window or open them using the “Rar-Archiv” button and start the checking using the “Passwortliste” (see screenshot). Read the rest of this entry »

Google Makes it Easy to Spy on Kids, Workers

Google recently upgraded its mobile maps software with a feature called Latitude that allows users with mobile devices to automatically share their location with others.

The feature expands on a tool released in 2007 that allows mobile phone users to check their own location on a Google map. The new feature raises several security concerns, but Google is trying to address this issue by requiring each user to manually turn on the tracking software and making it easy to turn off or limit access to the service.

Google says it will not retain any information on its users’ movements, and that only the last location recorded by the tracking service will be stored on Google’s computers. The software uses cell phone towers, global positioning systems, or a Wi-Fi connection to find users’ locations in the United States and 26 other countries.

Each user can decide who can monitor their location. Latitude will initially work on Blackberrys and devices running on Symbian software or Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Eventually the software will be able to operate on some T-1 Mobile phones running Google’s Android software and Apple’s iPhone and iTouch devices.

Tips to Fool Keyloggers in Public Internet Cafes

Every time you are using a computer in an Internet Cafe you should be aware of the possibility that your actions be recorded by a keylogger.

If an Internet Cafe is not well maintained, anyone can install keylogger, trojans or other such applications on those computers. They are sometimes detected only weeks or months later or worse - not at all - and could record your personal data, passwords, account credentials, etc via the internet to the ones who will surely exploit them to their advantage.

What can you do to avoid this? Here are some tips:

  1. Check for Hardware KeyloggersThis should be the first thing to do.

It’s easy to take a look for Hardware Keylogger devices. If you don’t know how a hardware keylogger looks like you should read a previous post: What is a Hardware Keylogger.
  2. Use Anti-Keylogger or KeyScrambler Programs on your USB driveThis is a good idea. You can install a anti-keylogger (e.g. Free Anti Keylogger Program) on your USB, which would make sure that the PC you currently use isn’t infected with any known Keylogger.
